Harry Walden 11 a-side Match Report

Players from Clacton, Colchester and Witham made up Healthy 4 Life team who played against Clacton United U18 on Saturday 1st September at Clacton Leisure Centre grass pitches.

Healthy 4 Life vs. Clacton United Under 18s:   Harry' Walden's report

Healthy 4 Life Squad: Aaron Philips (GK), Marc McLeod, Richard Woraker, Greg Lark (C,) Jason Jenner, Johnny Ashmore, Andy Ashmore, Damian Harvey, Reece Walker, Tom Nicks, Joe Pickles, Ronnie Holloway, Harry Walden, Jordan Ovenden, Dave Ashmore and  Luke Thomas.

This game was a very memorable one for all the players. It was a 90 minute 11 a-side friendly against the Clacton United under 18 squad, and some of the players had never played 11 a-side before. The Healthy 4 Life squad had players from both Clacton and Colchester in it and Tom Nicks, who trains with Witham even managed to make it. Healthy 4 Life got some new experiences as well. Instead of having just one referee which is what they have in their tournaments, there were also linesmen, and the offside rule was in place. It was hard for Healthy 4 Life to guess how well they were going to do, considering they had never played 11 a-side before whilst Clacton were an established 11 a-side team, and it wasn't long before Clacton were 3-0 up. However, Healthy 4 Life won a free kick just outside the Clacton box, and defender and captain Greg Lark took it and drilled it into the bottom corner. If this wasn't impressive, just moments later striker Luke Thomas scored another, changing Clacton's score line from a 3 goal lead to a 1 goal lead. Clacton restored their 2 goal lead not long after though. HT: 4-2 In the second half Clacton restored their 3 goal lead, but Healthy 4 Life put up a bitter fight. Luke scored a hat-trick, bringing the score back to 5-4 and in the dying moments of the game Healthy 4 Life almost found an equaliser, only for Clacton to break away and seal the match.
